Team USA qualification

National Team Selection Process

  1. First things first — the 2023 US Men’s and Women’s National Champions have automatically qualified for team USA. Those players are: Gabriel Finocchi, Will Picone, Kalin Morgan, and Kayla Wu Fleming.

  2. Players are eligible to qualify for Team USA if they (a) hold a 2024 annual membership and (b) finish in the top 4 of the Open or Women’s division at any of 5 USA Roundnet (USAR) regional events. Full event details can be found here.

    • If a Women’s Division fails to get 6 teams by the Tuesday before the tournament, we will cancel the women’s division and make all women’s teams who signed up eligible for Team USA. In this case we’ll ask those players to submit film of their gameplay from any tournaments as far back as 2023 USAR Nationals so the selection panel can evaluate them on their gameplay.

  3. If there are any teams in the top 4 where both players are not eligible to compete for the US, then the next highest placing team(s) will be eligible for Team USA. (ex: If the 2nd place team is Canadian and the 3rd place team is German, then the teams losing in the quarterfinals will play out for 5th and the 5th and 6th place teams will be eligible for Team USA).

    • A US player who places top 4 with a non-US partner is still eligible for selection to Team USA

  4. After all 5 regionals determine which players qualified for selection, separate panels will select 8 Men’s, and 8 Women’s players based on the following criteria:

    • Performance at USAR Regional Events

    • Fair Play/Attitude

    • Roundnet accomplishments and recent level of play

    • Diversity in skillset across the team

  5. The National team will be announced

    • Men’s Squad on Friday May 10th, 2024

    • Women’s Squad on Friday May 17th, 2024

Qualified players may submit film from their games at Regionals or any tournament dating back to 2023 USAR Nationals for the panel to review through WeTransfer here

Note: The Sunday after USAR Nationals will be a mandatory Team USA day for selected members to practice, determine partners, and serve as media day for Team USA.

Selection Panels

USA Roundnet will put together two panels to select our national teams: one for the men and one for the women.

We aim to have 5-8 people on each panel and want the group to be geographically diverse. Players who are aiming to qualify for Team USA may also apply to be on the panel. We will not take any qualified players for the panel, but a player who doesn’t qualify (by placing top 4 at a regional) would be eligible to serve on a selection panel. Including players will be especially important to ensure there are women serving on the women’s selection panel.

The Team USA coaches will be part of both panels and will help in selecting the panel members.

If you would like to serve on one of the panels, please fill out an application here. We will keep this application open until April 1.

The panels will meet and select Team USA during the first or second week of May. Our plan is to have Team USA selected by May 10 at latest.
